Energy Sector Panels - powered by Mabanaft GmbH & Co. KG

Wind energy and hydrogen are key to Northern Europe’s potential to become the continent’s leading energy supplier. There is immense potential for offshore wind production as stated in the Oostend Declaration (April 2023) on the North Seas as Europe’s green power plant. Denmark’s wind potential goes far beyond its own demand. The Danish “Energy Island” project is part of the German-Danish Joint Action Plan and envisages the establishment of an artificial island in the North Sea that will serve as a hub for offshore wind farms supplying 3-4 GW of energy, with a long-term expansion potential of 10 GW. The energy island in the Baltic Sea will be Bornholm, where electrotechnical facilities on the island will serve as a hub for offshore wind farms off the coast supplying 3 GW of energy.

Connecting these to Germany’s electricity grid and expanding sector coupling through hydrogen will be central to supply industries and households in Germany through a land-based pipeline which has been agreed between Denmark and Germany (March 2023).

In the two panels on wind energy and sector coupling we will explore the plans for expansion of the wind energy production, the sector coupling potentials and plans for hydrogen, ammonia and other green gases and the efficient linkages between Denmark and Germany through new infrastructure.
