Building Tomorrow: German-Danish Dialogue on Sustainable Buildings in Urban Spaces

The German-Danish Dialogue on Sustainable Buildings took place on 8 September 2026 at HafenCity Hamburg, organised in collaboration with Copenhagen Capacity. The event brought together German and Danish stakeholders to exchange perspectives on sustainable construction and renovation and the role of buildings in creating climate-neutral cities.

Cities are at the heart of the green transition, and buildings represent an important lever for reducing energy consumption and CO₂ emissions. Germany and Denmark face many of the same challenges when it comes to balancing ambitious climate targets with economic feasibility, innovation, space constraints and regulatory requirements.

The programme included a keynote by Gerd Hansen, Managing Partner and Founder of Archy Nova, followed by a panel discussion with representatives from Werner Sobek Copenhagen, ADEPT, STRABAG Real Estate, AART and Robert C. Spies. The discussion focused on practical approaches to sustainable and affordable buildings and how stronger German-Danish cooperation and knowledge sharing can contribute to the development of more resilient and climate-neutral cities.

Prior to the dialogue, participants also had the opportunity to take part in a guided tour of HafenCity and gain insights into the development of one of Europe’s largest inner-city urban development projects.
